I think you have 3 distinct categories of fast food.
1. QSR - Quick Serve Restaurant - This is the bread and butter of the fast food industry. Food is fair. Service is fair. Value is best. Examples: Taco Bell, Burger King, Mc Donald's and Subway.
2. Fast Casual - These are restaurants that serve fast food but in a more restaurant atmosphere. The Food is better. The service is a bit better and the value goes down a bit. You will pay more at a fast casual restaurant than a QSR. Examples: Chipotle Grill, Noodles & Co and Culvers.
3. Carryout/Carside to Go - Many full service restaurants are dishing up their food for carryout where you can dine at home or anywhere you please. The Food is going to be the best while the service is minimal. The value is going to be the worst. You will pay a premium for carryout. Examples: Applebee's, Chili's and Outback Steakhouse.
