Animals feel pain and fear just like we do. They are born to a mother and father, they have eyes, a face and a heart. They share our world and can even be our companions. So why do people act as if animals have no worth and can't feel as we do? Why is it okay to exploit and kill animals? Why is cruelty acceptable when it comes to animals around the world?

They don't believe that animals have feelings. Animals are "things", not beings to them. They are dispensable and replaceable...if one dies, they can just "go get a new one"...I guess it is because they don't jump up kick their owners butts and say "HEY THAT HURTS" or something...in plain understandable language not animal speak. It is a proven fact that a person who is cruel t animals is more than likely going to be cruel to children, significant others and so on....if you ask me I think they should be subjected to their own cruelty to see how they like it.

I wonder about that each and every day. I've got 7 dogs. They are all well-fed, I bathe them often and I show them love. People who enjoy being cruel to animals, are individuals with serious issues. Did you know that many sadistic serial killers enjoyed killing and torturing small animals during their childhood? People who enjoy cruelty of any kind are definitely disturbed. The United States is very concerned with animal cruelty...they have strict laws against it. However, in Third World and developing countries (I live in a developing country, by the way) the governments aren't very concerned. As far as they are concerned, animals are 'dumb' animals who don't deserve much attention.

I can go on and on...but I think I'll just shut up now.

This is probably the best question I have seen posted here.

You made me realize that I am the subject of your question. I was taught to kill flies and do so without thought because it is convenient for me. I don't know what else to do with them. They die anyway a few days later. Is it because I didn't feed them or it is because they have a short lifespan?

Rather than vacuuming them, I should probably carry the spiders outside of my house or should I keep them in a cage so they don't get cold? I'm not sure how to catch them.

With other pets, I operate like a lousy zoo. I don't try to figure out what is the perfect condition for the animal, but I do only what I feel like doing with the limited resources I have.

I think a reason I can do this is because I really have no idea what it is like to be various animals. But given that, I should err on the side of the animal. The reason I don't is because I'd rather have fun watching a movie than devote time to this topic.

I do eat meat because I like it and I was brought up that way. It would be a big loss on my part to give up meat, but maybe I should prioritize the life of the animal. I just don't know whether I have enough character to accomplish that. I guess I could compromise.

But last year, I read an article that said that vegetarians kill many more animals than I do because lots of insects lose their lives in the growing of vegetables. Should we weigh the value of life for various animals?

Plants are living things too and some scientists say they react to destructive actions, so I think some thought should be given to them.

I'm upset about the animals that are not spayed or neutered and those people who toss away their pets. I'm upset that lots of pets are needlessly killed each year. I'm not as bad as that although I have drawn the line on animal treatment without sufficient examination.

We treat our animals better than ourselves in one way only. My cat got euthanized a day or so before he would have died so that he could avoid pain. I wish that option was available to me when I need it.

Things do change and I think it is important to bring this issue to the forefront just like the smoking issue for example. A week ago, the state of New Hampshire (I think) made humans with unaltered pet dependents pay something like $200 for breeders licenses. This is a reasonable piece of legislation that will result in fewer animal deaths.

Your question sounds like the topic for a much needed documentary. I think you can change the world for the better!

When I kill while hunting, I don't feel a dang thing. On the part of hunters, it's not cruelty. We hunt to put food on the table. We get the best shot we can. We help with wildlife conservation. If we didn't, the number of car s because of deer and other animals would significantly rise. On the part of farmers, ranchers, and anybody in the meat business, they do it to help people so they don't have to hunt or eat that soy crap. Sorry, but that's my opinion.

regrettably, i imagine the answer isn't any. that is going to by no skill come to an finished end, yet you and that i'm able to do our area to ensure the consequences an the custom's unacceptability for this habit is so extreme people will imagine two times about hurting an animal. Animal cruelty, like rape and abuse are crimes of ability. those who experience insecure or inadequately helpful ought to smash others to savour both a) understanding that they were the source of that different's discomfort, to that end having the flexibility of that human being's happiness or misery of their fingers or b) understanding that someone or something else feels worse than they do. Animals, like small little ones, are an extremely aggravating classification of sufferer, because they can't talk up for themselves, regrettably.

Because some people feel powerful when they harm an animal. Some thinks it makes them a "man" because they shoot a defenseless deer. These people really have no worth as human beings, and it makes them feel good to harm something that does not even have a chance to fight back.

most people dont feel that way. Some do of course, just like they do to other humans.

Killing animals for food is a different thing - no crulety meant, just where you are in the food chain there.

I agree to disagree.
Not all animals are friendly. you feel that because you don't have lions, tigers, bears and hyenas roaming your back yard, or maybe some 30 ft anaconda in your pond. Even dogs and cats can be mean sometimes.

It does not make sense.

Cruelty to a PETA member, I understand - But, not innocent animals.

I think it's for the same reason that most people ignore the fact that there are millions and millions of people in this world that are starving and suffering: it is too painful and uncomfortable to think about. Sadly, for most people, ignorance is all too often bliss.
