The "darker and thicker" is just an illusion. When you shave, you cut the hair off. When it grows back, it's the same hair with a blunt end, not a new hair with a soft, pointed tip. So the stubble is thicker, yes, but only because you are seeing the middle of an old hair. Hope this makes sense.

When I worked at a summer camp when I was in college, I didn't shave my legs all summer. The hair seemed to be darker and thicker when it first came in, but eventually it turned into this baby fine hair. Then I would shave again when I went back into the "real" world. The "real" world sucks, by the way....

Actually, hair naturally tapers of at the ends. So when you shave your legs it cuts the hair off bluntly and when it grows back it appears darker and thicker. If you just let it grow it will eventually appear like before you shaved your legs.

think of it like this
when the hair first starts growing out of your body it comes out thin and to a point, like a needle
so when you cut the end off only the thicker part is left, not the thin pointy part the penetrated out your skin
so it seems thicker and darker but its just as thick as it was before you cut
i do think shaving makes the hair more visible per area of growth, since you arbitrarily cut all the hair there even the ones you cant see that encourage your hair to grow back faster
normally the hairs would most likely get rubbed off from your pants, sitting, walking, rubbing the skin together, or simply falling out
but since your not letting that happen by cutting it, your essentially pruning to allow for more growth

Think about the hair you had before you ever shaved. It was exposed to the sun for years, smooth, natural. As soon as you shaved all of that sun bleached hair was gone and in comes the prickly stuff for the rest of your life. It's not that your hair is darker or thicker it's just newer

It SEEMS to be darker and thicker, but it's not. your shaving UP and the angle that your hair grows back is different than how it started. Thats all.

Neither. That is a myth. It might FEEL corser because when you shave you cut the hair at an angle and so it might be pricklier. What you do to the outside of the hair has no effect on the way it grows from the inside.

Its the same as shaving anywhere. Hair concentration usually thickens with age. However, their hair that does grow back will typically be much more coarse, tough and wirey over time.

The hair splits into two, that's why some people think it grew back thicker.
