in my culture the boogie man or camp monster was invented to keep children from going out of their tee pees at night..i still use the boogie man to keep my little ones in at night..i always say"thank god for the boogie man"

Are you talking about the Boogeyman? He is either the guy that hides in the closet or stays under your bed when you are asleep, or he is a disco master from the 70s. He was John Travolta's arch nemesis.

I think he's our innate fear of the dark.
Humans are daylight animals, so our eyes are adapted for daylight. We also have vivid imaginations
So, when we hear a noise at night and can't see what it is, we make up something, and for some reason it's usually something scary.
