I have a friend in Michigan that wants to come here to Wisconsin, but she's not too sure if her car is reliable because she says that when shes going up a hill with the car, the car looses strength and she has to put on (the car is stick) second gear right away or it'll turn off. do you know whats wrong with it? Do you think its reliable?

tell your friend that its natural for a car with a manuel trans to lose power on a hill, its not like a automatic,so if thats all thats wrong well tell your friend it ok and she can come ahead to your home.

I love a challenge! There is barely enough in your question to even reply with anything but a smart comment. To begin with, factors like year, model, mileage, would help greatly. Another would be how steep of a hill? A 92 Toyota Tercel with 67 HP would be operating at peak efficiency and do exactly what you describe. Tell your friend to go to a mechanic in her area with a good reputation, and explain the problem to him.

The car is gutless for any one, two or more reasons. And there is about 30 possible reasons. Most likely it is a fuel feed problem concerning a component controlled by computer operation. Mechanics are born to be paid to fix cars and every neglected car will need repairs. Get her to loosen her purse strings and see a mechanic, or buy a new car.

Nothing is wrong with it. Your friend does not know how to drive stick shift. You are supposed to put in on the lower gears when you are driving uphill. This is normal. You put it on the lower gears to make it over the hill, then go back to normal shifting.

it could be many things, that has happened to me before, and all I needed was to change the fuel filter. For your friend, It also depends how steep is teh hill and how fast he/she is going. Maybe just needs to learn to drive stick better.
