Except for native Americans, all of us over here immigrated from other countries.

I have mixed feelings. I mean the US was founded by immigrants (my father's family is American Indian, we kid around that they met my mother's family getting off the boat), so more is fine. The fact that I can't go to a doctor and explain what is wrong cause they don't understand enough english is frustrating, so that's bad. The fact that many do not understand OUR culture, which is where they are now living, is frustrating as well. If I moved to India I would be expected to follow the culture there, I feel that the people moving here should have to follow it as well. I had a man from India tell me that I could not wear pants, talk to him (I was waiting on him in a store), and when asked to get the manager (which I was) was told that a woman couldn't have that job and that I was lying. On the other hand, I have met some very nice people from India. I think that it's up to the person and their attitude on how they will fit into the US and how we will act to them, but realize that we have some very narrow minded stupid people here that are going to look at you and see a terrorist no matter what you do, and for this I apologize.

That's a very strange question. Has anyone ever done a poll involving everyone in the US, asking for their impressions of people coming from India? Probably not. There are going to be a few people who think of stereotypes, a few who have more intimate knowledge, and a vast majority who have never thought about it at all.
It's highly unlikely there is a general opinion, either good, bad or evil -- which is also a strange choice! One positive choice and two negative choices. Where I come from, that's called stacking the deck!

The US has always had an open door policy for legal aliens. That's what has made this country so great, the mixing of cultures from around the world. With that said, let me add that the political climate in the US right now for all aliens, be they legal or not, is somewhat tense. I think that there is some mild dissatisfaction right now in the US with India taking so many middle management jobs away from our country, but there has not been any sort of large uprising against people from India so much as the middle east in general and Mexican illegals. I think in general people accept people for their deeds not what they look like, at least I would hope that would be the case the majority of the time. I know that I see some fun poked from stereotypes of the Indian immigrant who works at 7/11, but small minds all over the world poke fun at stereotypes and large minds see there is no humor in typifying any culture. I can't say that everyone here would welcome you with open arms, but I think that in general, most Americans prefer to base their opinions on personal experience and not stereotypes. I personally have never met anyone from India that behaved in any manner other than honorable, so for me, I have no reason to think any other person from India would be any different.

The India people are the worst buyers in the world I was a butcher in a store, they always want their chicken cut exactly 16 pieces and they would count the pieces to make sure that it is in fact 16 pieces!! They always come and stand right by the butcher to see what he is doing one time a really rude Indian woman got mad and told me i wasn't cutting the meat right so she took the knife from my hand and did it herself... India people expect the world to fall at their feet and never pay a dime.
Over 98% of the India people I saw in my life were that way. That's a shame because when you see their movies you think WOW they are so perfect but in real life they're the most selfish people in the world...
SORRY!....

I have mixed feelings too. They are causing a lot of americans to lose their jobs without even being in this country. They are a highly educated hardworking people and coming here would put even more americans out of work. HAve you ever seen an unemployed indian person? I used to wonder how come 7 11 always hires them. That seemed like racial discrimination but no one has ever brought that up

I think that they need to stay in their country. I don't really have a problem with any other nationality coming here except for the Middle Eastern people. I don't know why I just don't trust them, not even to sell me a slurpee at their 7-11's.

Having an East Indian friend really exposed me to the culture. I am disgusted with the degree of self-hatred--a caste system based on skin complexion and economic prosperity.
As a person in the U.S. I think YOU ARE BLACK PEOPLE who refuse to admit that you are BLACK. Most of you are certainly blacker than me. What's up with that?

I find Indian women can be very attractive, but unfortunately, they don't seem to marry non-Indians very often.
I also love the Indian culture so think it's be a good influence on America.
