in my opinion ...no age gap is too much ...the only things that matters is ...that you both care for each other ...are over 21..and promise to be faithful

It depends upon the ages of the people involved. If one of them is quite young, an age gap can make a big difference. As life goes on, and age gap is less of an issue.

I think it depends on the specific people, and their specific ages. A larger age gap is more workable for older people, than younger. The difference between 15 and 20, for example, is much greater than the difference between 30 and 40.

I'll tell you a story using Dick, Jane and Paris as in Hilton. Dick is employed with a divorce, two children and he's 45. Dick goes to work puts money in his savings account and plans for his children's future. One day while balancing his checkbook Dick notices Paris the 22 year old collage student, bank teller. She notices Dick and he's not bad for an old guy plus he's got a nice car. In a mid life crisis moment Dick asks Paris out she says "yes I'd love to" and giggles coyly. As she sits across the table from Dick all doe eyed not hearing a word he's saying. She could care less about finding the right schools, tax breaks, balancing custodial visits and routine maintenance. She wants to have Justin Timberlake love verses quoted to her while Dick looks deep in her eyes. Dick doesn't know any Justin Timberlake but he's got the Eagle's greatest hits in his car stereo on cassette. Paris wants jewelery while Dick wants to make the house payment. Dick wants control while Paris wants to party of the coast of Italy and send the children to boarding school. Paris wants to go out to clubs while Dick wants to barbecue in the back yard. Dick wants to have a conversation with an intellectual equal while Paris wants to shop for shoes. Dick wants his daughters to like Paris but she just wants to have make-up parties and dress them frilly. There's a gap with Dick and Paris it's a reality gap, a life experience gap, a compatibility gap and a expectation gap. There are gaps more disconcerting then age gaps. Now Jane has much more in common with Dick and she understands the situation. Jane is 25 with responsibilities there is an age gap but it's different when other gaps aren't there. The one exception to my age gap theory when it's a minor with an adult never a good idea. Paris wants a daddy Dick wants a woman and Jane wants a man.

I think more than 50% is always a bad idea...
for example if one person is 50 the other should be over 25
or if one person is 20 the other person should not be over 40
The younger you get the more important it is.
Like if you are under 18 you can get into statutory rape and stuff.
I think if you are 15 you should not date someone older than 18.
I think if you are 17 you should not go over 25
I think if you are 18 you could maybe go to 30
if you are younger than that like 13, you should not date over 15.
Then by the time you get to 20 start using the 50% rule.

When your 25 - 5 years (Date someone 20-30)
When your 35 - 10 years (Date someone 25-45)

It doesn't matter really. Personally I wouldn't want to date someone say...my parents age, but love knows no age! My man is younger than I am, but he's more of a man than any older guy I have ever dated by far. And 100x's the man my exhusband is.
But yeah, age is nothing really, it's what's inside that counts.

I think that it really depends on your age.

If you're 18, then four or five years can make a big difference. You could be dating a 22 year old, of a 14 year old.

However, if you are 40, five years doesn't make that much of a difference.
