Only you are your family could answer that. 55 hours is not an extreme amount.
A workaholic is a person addicted to work. This addiction may be pleasurable to the victim or it may be burdensome and troubling.
Workaholics believe that if they don't work, their world will collapse. Workaholics do not necessarily love their work or try to excel in their work. If a person thinks he or she is the only person capable of performing their work, he/she is most likely a workaholic.
The term is often used inaccurately to describe an energetic person who devotes a lot of time to work despite having good relations with co-workers, taking pleasure in other activities, being well rested, and attending to family and social life.

It really depends on the work, and why you do it. Is it because you set an agressive goal, and 55 weeks is what is required? Is it because you own your own business and are unwilling to hire someone to work part time for you? Is it because you have nothing else better to do? Is it because you tend to avoid going home, etc., instead making excuses to stay at work to get trivial things done?
those are the types of questions you should ask. I've certainly worked 60+ hours and not felt like a workaholic but I've also worked 45 hours and felt like a workaholic.

no working 80 hours a week makes you a workaholic. It just means you are passionate about your work.

depends. I don't think a workaholic is defined by how many hours they work, but their motivation for doing so. As well as whether or not they are neglecting other areas of their life.

No. You have to get up in the 65-80 hour range to earn that distinction.
