From my ceiling there is a continuous ticking sound about every 5-10 seconds. It drives me crazy, I have to sleep with music in the background. I don't think it is dripping from the apartment above. I don't know if it could be termites, we have been known to have termites. It sounds like a sound from a clock but I am sure it is not.
Thanks

Call the bomb squad!

Actually, since it is an apartment I would ask the landlord. Maybe he knows of the problem, or maybe it could be the start of something serious (like wiring sending off a spark).

If it happens in the middle of the night too, my guess is a water line or drain leak. Expanding copper pipes make a ticking noise when the hot water flows through them if they're touching the wooden beams they go through. But after they cool down, the noise should stop.

Mine seems to be connected to the heat ducts. It increases when the heat kicks on. However, still have not found the source.

I agree with the water pipe idea. It may not be leaking but it could be perfectly normal but it may not. Since its going on all the time I would have it checked out. Call your landlord.
