Interesting question in that you didn't state where in the USA you wanted to go. Some basic questions come to mind(I am Owner of a Travel Agency):
1-How long will your trip be for?
2-Hotel? Air? Hotel/Air combo? Resort?
3-Departure city and destination?
4-Your Travel budget?
Another thing--there are a LOT of definitions for a "fun and relaxing" vacation spot. Something to ponder: Have any of you discussed a certain spot in the USA more than others? That's a good sign of possibly being a vacation spot. The above questions seem minor, but they're important in this respect--they will help you determine which vacation destination in the US will make the most sense for you. Fall Foliage - it's the only place to be in October. New Hampshire or Vermont, the White Mountains. You will be amazed at the spectacular scenery, plus there are plenty of road trips to take (Ben and Jerry's, Lake Winnapausaukee, Killington).
If you are planning to be here around Halloween, Key West's Fantasy Fest is an interesting option - provided you don't mind crowds or nakedness.
