I was wondering, i have heard from a lot of people that China is not included in the U.N. because they violate human rights, however i have also been told that they are, and if you are not a member of the U.N. you are not a country. Thanks, Alex

China is a charter member of the UN. They are also permanent on the Security Council, which has the ability to veto decisions made by the main decision body of the UN.

Status as a "Country" is actually a very complex issue. Generally, if a state is recognized by the UN it is mostly recognized by other nations. Individual nations make their own decisions though. The UN has no binding authority. So if Country A doesn't recognize Country B it is up to them. (Iran doesn't recognize Israel)

As a practial matter, any people group with enough cohesion to defend their own territory from outside aggression is effectively a "Country".

China is a permanent member of the Security Council. You can be a country and not be a member of the U.N. though.

Yes, China is in the UN, and they are on the United Nations Security Council as well. Taiwan is not in the UN and some other countries consider it a country.

first, downwithevils is right. The west does have an obvious double standard. Israel kills women and children, and the UN, the EU, are not doing anything serious about it; it doesn't go farther than verbal criticism.

In answer to your question, whoo, where have you been? China is a consequential member of the UN.
