Enterprise Resource Planning. ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle are replacing older Legacy MRP systems such as ASK MANMAN, QAD, MAPICS, Chess, etc.

These systems are used to generate purchased materials requisitions, requests for quotes, purchase orders and for internal manufacturing they create the Bills of Materials, approved suppliers lists, work orders, etc.

Give it another 5-10 years and they will replace ERP with something else just like they did JIT, MRP, etc., etc. Gotta keep the consultants employed you know!!

Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERPs) integrate (or attempt to integrate) all data and processes of an organization into a single unified system. A typical ERP system will use multiple components of computer software and hardware to achieve the integration. A key ingredient of most ERP systems is the use of a single, unified database to store data for the various system modules.
