If ever the term "a one off" could be more appropriate it certainly fits the bill with Syd Barrett. As far as i'm concernd Syd is up there with Mozart,Berry,Presley,Lennon,Hendrix as pure musical geniuses.
His music will live forever and like the names mentioned above he is one of the few people who changed the course of musical history.
R.I.P. Syd and shine on in the great gig in the sky you crazy diamond.

Count me in! Just got home from work and drinking a whisky to Sid. I think maybe i'll lay off the acid for the time being, getting older! But he was a genius, and really drove music forward in the 60s.

It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm almost obliged to you for making it clear that I'm not here
And I never knew the moon could be so big
And I never knew the moon could be so blue
And I'm grateful you threw away my old shoes
And brought me here instead dressed in red
And I'm wondering who could be writing this song
I don't care if the Sun don't shine
And I don't care if nothing is mine
And I don't care if I'm nervous with you
I'll do my loving in the Winter
And the sea isn't green
And I love the Queen
And what exactly is a dream?
And what exactly is a joke?
The man who launched a thousand trips
R.I.P.

I will join you, I will raise a glass and toast to a creative mind that was shut down too soon. I will dig out my" look I still have music on vinyl " Syd Barrett albums and play them. And I will say a prayer for the friends, family and fans that are left behind to mourn his passing. Although, there are those who believe he died long ago.

Me. I've already played Shine On half a dozen times this evening. Tis a sad day. He was a crazy genius.
Let's hope he's making his weird and wacky tunes in the afterlife... :o)

Dark Globe by Syd Barrett
Oh where are you now
P.ussy willow that smiled on this leaf?
When I was alone you promised a stone from your heart
My head kissed the ground
I was half the way down, treading the sand
Please, please, lift a hand
I'm only a person whose armbands beat
On his hands, hang tall
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?
The poppy birds way
Swing twigs coffee brands around
Brandish a wand with a feathery tongue
My head kissed the ground
I was half the way down, treading the sand
Please, please, please lift a hand
I'm only a person with Eskimo chain
I tattered my brain all the way...
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?

Someone on tv said he has gone to a better place - however he was hardly was on this planet during his Floyd days!
They don't make them like that now more's the pity.
