Well and truly. They can give you advice, they can tell you of future events, they can show you solutions to problems, they can tell you nuggets of 'wisdom' which you might not be aware of, they can make you aware of feelings you might not know about (ie someone you love, someone you think is an enemy, but might be a very useful friend)

Sometimes dreams can be warnings telling you not to do a certain thing or go to a certain place. I was once going to write a University dissertation about bilingualism, but I had a dream that I went to a cupboard marked BILINGUALISM and found it bare. I later found out that textbooks on this subject were very thin on the ground and I would have a struggle writing the essay and making it any good. The message of the dream was to avoid this subject and explore another.

Quite often, a dream will show you an area of your personality or psyche which needs to be adddressed. If you are having nightmares, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is something wrong with you; it might just mean that you need to 'cultivate' a certain area of your personality, or a certain fear needs to be addressed.

I pay great attention to my dreams. Sleep with a pen and paper beside your bed, and be ready to write down your dream once it has happened. Don't do this straight away, leave it a couple of minutes then write it down. This will help you remember more details and symbols. Then you can work out what it means.

Usually, a dream you have is referring to your most important issue at that particular time. Work out what that could be first.

Then invest in a couple of dream dictionaries and read what they say for each symbol. It is helpful to have a couple so that you can get a 'second opinion,' or you can refer to an entry in one, if a symbol can't be found in the other. The ones I have mentioned in the sources I have found particularly good.

Some think so and some don't. Personally, I think they do. Dreams come from the subconcious and the subconcious knows a lot more than the concious. It knows more about you and manyother things. Some scientists speculate that you actually store everything you hear, it's just a matter of whether or not you are able to access it.

Dreams don't quite speak our language, that's why some things are a little strange.

Sometimes our dreams are just random neuron firings that our brain is trying to interpret.

Sometimes our dreams are our brain processing information that we didn't have enough time for or didn't give enough time to during the day.

Sometimes our dreams are spiritual messages.

Sometimes a dream is a wish your heart makes.

There are no evidence that show this idea. The first scientist who tried to analyze dreams was Sigmund Freud, with his model of Conscious/Subconscious. Have in mind that Freud proposed these ideas with no research to support it. Dr Freud was a Neurologist whatsoever.
