I have upity sister-in-laws that all must out do each other, and if I come up with a lame favor for one sis-in-laws baby shower, I'll be out of the cool club. So, I need something nice, creative, original, and will impress the snotty sisters.

Sorry for the snotty sisters. You could put together little bags or baskets with pink stuff or blue stuff, like candles, lotions, etc. A couple other ideas from showers I have been to are candy bar wrappers (do them yourself based on the ideas below or just order them online) and birth bracelets. Have each person there select beads for the others and write the reason down on a little card. If you don't know someone, then you just add a clear one (or pink one or whatever). Then you tell everyone to wear them when they get the news that the sis is in labor.

It is so hard to impress people like that. Maybe you could be ultra cool and donate money to the March of Dimes or something and just give each one a dime in a little cloth bag with a message that says something like:

"With this baby our hearts soar.
Let us share our blessing with those who need more."

Good luck!

I would try to focus on something that really means something to YOU. forget them. Those type of people cannot find happiness in anything other than other peoples misery or faults. When you do something that actually brings you happiness that is what will get them most because they wont understand how you can find happiness in something so simple and they will only wish they could. So something like your favorite sonogram pic engraved in a frame or those adorable hershey bars that are custom made to say HERESHEIS or HEREHEIS then on the back they have a time capsule for the year the baby will be born. really cute. How about something like baby booties filled with little thank you for coming notes and candy or mints. there is a never ending creativity database and people think all that stuff is cute whether it cost $1000 or $20 whatever brings a tear to your eye is what others will really find beautiful

First, I'd have everyone contribute something to a time capsule, representative of the year/ era of the baby's birth: movies, newspapers, etc. Then, have them all sign a book of wishes for the baby; maybe try making them a cool scrapbook of somekind with poems and quotes celebrating babies. A plant or a tree would be cool too, or check out some baby blessings from different cultures and try to incorporate them into something

hmm. . . That sounds awful. I'm sorry you have to deal with these people. It depends on if you're doing broad favors or winning favors. I have a few ideas for you. If you are giving out favors that must be won, there are a few places that will give you a BANG (socially) for your buck. Check to see if there are any outlet stores in your area, you can go to Coach outlet store, and pick up key chains (about 10-15 dollars a piece), or wristlets and small purses (25-50 dollars a piece). Mikasa outlet offers great crystal stem ware for around 5-15 dollars. And, if you don't have outlets, go to stores like Tiffany's, which the packaging speaks louder than the gift. You can get key chains, crystal stem ware (champagne flutes), and other assorted gifts for under 25 dollars. If you intend on having at least four big winning gifts, these would be great places to start. Always shop sale!!

For door gifts (meaning everyone gets one), you could go to bath and body works (they normally have sales and they have outlets around the nation) and get little shower gels and soaps, wal-mart and get the 99 cent bath sponges and shower caps and if you want to go ALL out, buy a few cheap umbrellas. You could package them with a little note saying : "May all your showers to come be as good as the one you've just blessed with your presence."

I did both of these ideas for other showers that I have had and they went over well.

1. Bamboo plants. First off they have so may meannings they could be used for any kind of shower. Plus people really like plants these days and these plants are hard to kill. You would practically have to ignore them. When I made them, people were taking them off of other tables. You can buy the bamboo in bulk on ebay. There are alot of great sellers of bamboo on there and it is a lot cheaper. Next go to your local Walmart or dollar store and find small bowls / vases/ or something to put them in. A small favor only needs a small bowl and 2-3 bamboo sticks. Decorate the bowls or what ever you find with paint/glass paint if you need to for the type of shower it is. Put a little bit of rock ( I found that gravel for aquariums is cheap and colorful) in the bottom of the bowl, just enough to hold bamboo into place. With twist ties, tie the bamboo together and shove it into the middle of the pot. If you want to add extra you could put streamers of baby colors around the bowls with baby kinda stuff tied to it. Add a little water, enough to give the bamboo a drink until the people take them home.

2. The second one I did was bath salts. I had a friend of mine save her baby food jars. I cleaned them out and took off the lables. I filled them with bath salts. Then I wrapped them in tissue paper/cello wrap, tied ribbon around it and used my siccors to make streamers out of the ribbon.

Little drawstring satchet satin bags with pink or blue ribbon filled withbaby register info. Also try plastic silver spoons fill with a candy at the tip of it in the spoon and cover it with either pink or blue netting. I did that for my wedding. and tie the netting with the same color pink or blue curling ribbon it will tie around the handleit is so cute.

Food: Salad, Fruit, and fresh veggies are a winner also water, light punch(pink lemonade, lavendar tea, or old fashioned lemonade with real large lemon slices.)

Invitations: Send Out baby diaper invites they are at walmart or marble paper blue or pink write the info in a slight cursive font Lucid calligraphy, or black it is a font and that is very elegant remember simplicity is always elegant.

E-mail me if you have any more questions.

How about favors from Godiva, you can get a box of 4 chocolates and they will personalize a ribbon for you. They do it for baby showers about $6 each, and anyone who's anyone knows that godiva are expensive.

The mom is likely to get a ton of things for the baby, so maybe get the baby one small thing and make a care package for the new mom. Easy to grab snacks, lanolin for breastfeeding, one of those nice plastic cups with a spout or straw (being a new mom is thirsty work), a nice pair of slippers...you get the idea. Then wrap it up in a nice baby blanket or some other creative way.
