Relationships are all based one persons needs being met by another. Although most aren't trivial, the dynamic of each relationship is on a supply and demand basis.

there is no difference, we have created an idea of love as the only means of being happy. therefore if our happines is linked to another person who makes us "complete", we depend on this other person to have love (i.e a relationship) and be happy.
Or something like that

decribes me to the tee....i am dependant on a male friend of mine for 26 years, i call him for everything, except sex, we don't engage, but i have another friend that i have a sexual relationship with, well i guess im dependant on them both. the difference is, I need to get a life, really.

they are totally separate concepts, yet become interwoven, dynamically. actually any relationship, including "romantic" does best where both parties are emotionally independent. that cuts way down on the drama and unpleasantness. gaining emotional independence and overall maturity takes a bit of study and effort, however.
