Why do you want it to be a sport? I'm in marching band, and everyone used to complain about this. It's marching, yes, but you march and exercise and work and sweat for the MUSIC. It's for THE MUSIC!!! You don't need to be recognized as a sport, you should be recognized for the great music that you play. If your band played great, you would get all the recognition that you needed.

As a past member of a marching band I understand where you're coming from. It will never be considered a sport because it's part of a class. I still get kidded about being a band geek and I've been out of school for 15 years. Unless you've done it you don't know what it takes to march and play at the same time.

B/c schools are stupid. I would definitely consider it a sport. You do just as much practice as everyone else and it's still very active. I did it for 6 years and think it should be sport. But if it a sport then the school has to pay for things involved w/ it. Like band camps. It's just the same as why do they consider cheerleading a sport.

I agree. It's hard enough to play an instrument such as a trumpet or a saxophone, requiring great manual dexterity and lung power. Having to do precision marching at the same time makes it very challenging. And some of those instruments, such as the Souzaphone and the bass drum, are heavy. Yes, it's definitely a sport.

The reason is simple. What do you call "running from bullies who antagonize marching band members"? That seems more of a sport to me.

cuz it's a club. band is more music than physical activity.
