people are paranoid about rabies/other diseases. I'd call Animal Control and check with them, they'll probably dispose of it for you.

regardless of the city ordinance dig a hole and throw it in. The only reason to notify authorities is if perhaps you were dealing with dead birds which may carry infectious diseases such as west nile. Otherwise, if it is a possum or a raccoon it goes in a hole.

I've never found a dead racoon or possum, but I did find a dead squirrel. It was awful! A bike ran at him by accident. Any way, I suggest that you call Animal Control or to bury it.

Most places you can dig a hole and bury it or take it to your local dump. A vet would know. Where I live the vets all take the dead animals to the dump/transfer station. You could also probably call animal control and they would just come pick it up for you and you wouldn't have to do anything.

dig a deep hole and bury it. If it's a shallow hole a dog may come along and dig it back up... Can't you tell the difference between a raccoon and a possum?

contact your local animal control agency or wildlife department. they could tell you the procedures you need to follow, or better yet, one of them may be able to respond and pick it up for you.
it also depends if there's been any exposure, meaning did your dog/cat kill it? did it bite anybody or animal? this way they know if they need to test if for rabies or not ....
if either of them feel the need not to respond you could bury it about 3-4feet deep (think of the smell) or triple bag it and place it in the garbage can (with summer, it might be best to wait til your garbage day rolls around???)
good luck :)

You should call your local animal control facility / waste disposal facility - they usually have a service that will pick up dead animals. I wouldn't touch it myself!

I would imagine you can just throw it in the garbage - or dig a hole and bury it in your yard.
