Back in the days I battled a lot and found the best way to make someone look bad was to politely dismiss them rather than talk about their lyrical prowess, mother, clothing, looks, etc.
When you attack someone with politeness it leaves a real bad taste in their mouth and goes over much better with the crowd.

HARD WORK! If you spend 5 hours a day working on your rhymes and beats, double it and work 10 hours a day. In the end the only way to beat the competition is to work twice as hard.
