Certificate of Authenticity

It is a piece of paper stating that a particular item has been signed by a certain person and that the autograph is not a forgery in any way. However, anyone can make up their own CoA, so it would be best to stick with highly reputable companies since their company livelihood (and legal) lives are on the line with their certifications.

COA, in the word of autographs, stands for Certificate of Authenticity.

In essence, it's a written statement from the seller proclaiming that the autograph is real and often includes the date, location and ciurcumstances of how the autograph was obtained.

It's only as credible as the seller, but it's about the only tool short of expert analysis to help ensure an autograph isn't a forgery or other type of fake.
