SO MANY to choose from! I enjoy dining out, and I avoid chains. I live in LA. Here are some of my favorites:
Napa Valley Grill in Westwood
The Stinkin' Rose in Beverly Hills
La Petite Jardin in Los Angeles
Lawrys in Beverly Hills
Campinile in Los Angeles
If you want to travel a few miles for a great ocean/mountain view, The Hideaway Cafe in Malibu (20 miles down PCH from the 10).

Steak = Ruths Chris in LA or Pacific Dining Car in Santa Monica
Italian/California cuisine = Il Cugini in Santa Monica
Ribs/BBQ Chicken = Claim Jumper (various locations)
Fish/Seafood = Gladstones in Pacific Palisades
Game (deer, etc.) = Saddlepeak Lodge in Malibu/Calabasas
