Giraffes are actually related (distantly) to horses and such.

Dogs come from wolves because dogs were domesticated from them. Giraffes come from Giraffes, they are and always have been wild animals. In terms of evolution they are closely related to goats, antelope, etc... The only other animal in the family Giraffidae is the Okapi (cool animal!)
