It depends on the reason I'd be first. Yes, I'd like to be first if you're talking about being the first in line to get concert tickets or at the DMV. I wouldn't mind being ranked first among the richest people in the world.
On the other hand, I wouldn't want to be first in line to receive some sort of punishment. I also wouldn't want to be ranked first among the ugliest people in the world.
Good question, though. Loaded, but good =)

I think this answer is relative.
If you mean in competition then yes
But say your a hostage and they're gonna start shooting people then first isn't so great.
If you're on a course where they make you stand up and speak allowed first isn't to cool either as you have no example to guide however last sucks more as it's best to get it over with.

No. Being 'next' is much better. It takes much less work and you have plenty of time to anticipate being first.
