heard because they were able to cast their votes before the game and some probably did and couldnt change their answer after what happened......and he was a good player but i think buffon should have won or at least got the silver or bronze.

buffon was a good keeper but not nearly as good as zizou. Zidane definatly deserved the ball beacuse most of you just remeber the headbutt he gave to matterazi. But the fact of the matter is that he took france from might not qualifying to the second round to scoring or help a goal in each of the knockout round games. He put frane past the heavily favored brazilians with a brilliant cross to Henry. He put away penalties to spain and italy and scored a wonderful in the spain game.

because he was a great player throughout the whole tournament.
he didn't get the golden shoe, OR the only gold worth a damn, the Cup...
let him have his exit trophy...
regardless of what happened in the finals, Zidane will go down in the books as one of the greatest ever to play the game.

Because the award is primarily given to the Best Footballer in the World Cup. No doubt it is marred by his head butting performance in the final with Italy and some would disagree with this award.

Despite his unprofessional behavior in headbutting the Italian player, he deserves the golden ball...He's a great player...He retired with an honor and disgrace.
