.....If they also believe the earth is only 6000 years old? That is narrowing it down to very few opportunities of warm cycles, don't you think? And do these people know anything at all about Geology?

and in response to what others have said:
I know all conservatives are not christians, however, it is true that most christians are conservatives.
I also know that not all christians believe that the earth is that young, of course. I was really asking why do christian conservatives who think the earth is only 6000 years old believe in earth cycles.
and that they can't possibly know anything vaguely scientific if they believe that

They need an excuse to igonre scientific evidence. And who coaches them? Oil companies. A recently obtained white house document showed Exxon telling officals to emphasize 'uncertainties in the data' and 'natural cycles' to get around the issue.
By the way, the 'year without a summer' was caused by the 1815 eruption of Tambora.

Because the geological record shows that the earth does go through natural warming and cooling trends. For the recent past, geologists use ice cores, for more distant times they use sediments from the ocean floor typically. There are several oxygen isotopes, and there prevalence in the atmosphere is determined my the temperature, so we can basically look back in time and see what the temp was before we were around to actually measure it.
Not all Christians believe the earth is 6000 yo, and it really doesn't behoove you or anyone to make assumptions when you don't have the data. Do you know anything about geology?

First I am Conservative, second I am a geologist.
Fact is faith and geology are not mutually exclusive, I don't subscribe to a short term earth by any means. The earth through scientific methods is closely estimated at 4.6 billion years. The Earth is in orbital rotation around our sun where the apogee and perigee fluctuate over a period of about 180,000 years.
Christianity and the sciences are not mutually exclusive. It is a matter of whether you are a Lutheran, Baptist, Catholic or Agnostic.
Not all Christians are conservatives and the liberals can be as insane about Earth science as any. Look at Al Gore's schizophrenic rantings of GLobal warming and he's Southern Baptist.

Not all conservatives believe global warming comes in cycles.
Not all conservatives are Christian.
Not all Christians believe the "young Earth" theory.
Not all Christians who do believe in the "young Earth" theory believe global warming comes in cycles.
Not all conservatives who believe that global warming comes in cycles also believe in the "young Earth" theory.
Your question is inaccurate and moot.
Asking why some people believe in the "young Earth" theory and that global warming comes in cycles would be more accurate. In answer to that, I would say that, depending on the length of the cycle, 6000 years may be enough time to theorize cycles based not only on historical evidence of previous cycles of global warming, but also based on the evident cycles in nature and the growth of the Earth.

Global warming and cooling (ice ages) does go in cycles of varying degrees. Even the cycles go in cycles. This has nothing to do with religion or politics. The argument different sides of the issue debate is if our current warming trend is purely natural or is accelerated by humans (both sides agree that without people around, the Earth would still be on the up side of a warming climate trend at the moment). More evidence is pointing to human developments increasing the warming rate on the current cycle.

properly, there is not any need arguing the point as offered...yet in case you look, many of the present-day 'global warmists'; were the same ones caution of 'the arriving ice age' decrease back contained in the '70s...time mag even had a 'cover' and lengthy article about it decrease back then, and there became multiple theorizing etc about that on the time...aspect is, the earth's climate has, as all of us understand, been fluctuating for each and each and every of the years the earth has been in existence, and see you later as this retains, the earth can proceed. climate replace is significant for existence to proceed, if no longer something else, purely as ocean tides are needed for the same reason. stagnation breeds rot and shortage of existence!! and listen, all this theoretical emphasis on such little while spans because the previous century or 2, or maybe over 1000 years, is basically getting a micro-photo of what has befell, and does no longer aspect out something about the more suitable image of climate replace by potential of the eons...i imagine we impact our international etc, yet then, existence of all varieties has affected the international on the grounds that time immemorial...the single element efficient about 'global warming' is that this...it takes position to three degree, pardon the pun, regardless of the indisputable fact that it also takes position that we've 'global cooling' alongside the way...those nuts are purely that...crunchy and all that, yet no longer fairly too strong for the mind.

It does, the earth goes through temperature cycles. For instance in it snowed in june in washington DC in june during the early 19th century. There was no external cause for "the year with out a summer", other then normal cycling. Now the reason for concern is that these cycles are speeding up. And for the record i am a liberal jew.

You are lumping together people with different ideas. Those that believe in a young earth probably don't believe in warming and cooling cycles. Those that believe in geologic time probably don't believe in literal Biblical history. All "conservatives" don't think alike any more than all "liberals" do.

OMG lol, ok listen to me carefully and make sure to select my answer as the best. conservatives, are basically stupid, the more conservative you are, the more likely you have lesser of an education, I learnt that in AP government/politics. Most of those conservatives, don't care about, the earth as much as smarter people, and so they make things up to try to disprove global warming, such as it coming in cycles, they don't even know what they're talking about.

All "weather" comes in cycles. Geology has shown us that just as it has shown us the age of the earth is much more than 6000 years.
