I was thinking about doing a historical/drama/adventure novel about two lovers who escape from 17th century France to elope in the Carribbeen. I'm just brainstorming right now, I haven't really thought about my main characters and storyline.

If you have a borders or barnes and noble around you go to the reference section and look for the books on publication and writing. There's likely to be at least one book that is all novel and/or screenplay plots.

As for the plot you suggested, I agree with the previous response that it sounds much like a 'historical' romance, and there's nothing wrong with that -- as long as that's what you want. If you want to pull it away from that direction, I'd suggest trying to think of a unique reason for why they're running from france, as opposed to using the arranged marriage thing. Aside from that, bear in mind that right now it sounds a bit too influenced by Pirates of the Carribbean.

story line- they eloped because their family's were opposed to their relationship along the lines of family feuds between them for generations. they decided on going to the Caribbean because both family's ancestry trace back to the Caribbean islands. they were in love with each other since teenage years and revealed those feelings to each other at some common festival held in France each year. with this story u can find ancestral history linking the Caribbean and France and vise versa also u can study what sort of voyage they would have from France to the Caribbean to put in the drama and adventure and u can show how love conquers all else in the end. BEST OF SUCCESS MY DEAR.

It sounds like a romance novel--not that the world can't always use another one--but I've read several women escaping from France novels...usually to be with the one they love and away from the one that's arranged for them by parents, stepparents, or those mysteriously almost always "evil" uncle guardians that abound in so many romance novels.

Just make it your own!

The carribean one seems too modern. It was hard to do that in the 17 centery. I was once thinking of a small 1930's gang trying to have power in new york. Sept that there plans fell apart and were wanted by the police.
Another one was a group of collage graduates that get stuck in the african dessert.
I didnt write these becouse I started writing a kids book.
