I have been reading some questions on here. I am wondering what cervical mucous is. I have two children and have never heard of this. We are trying for another one. I figured my most fertile days. We tried really hard during that time. I should be starting within the next few days if I am pregnant. But since I had my IUD taken out a couple of months ago I only got my period once since then and it was different that the when I had it. Could it take longer to conceive since I just had the IUD removed?

I took a home pregnancy test earlier and it was positive. Thanks for all the input!

Cervical mucous is secreted by the cervix at certain times of the month and is an excellent way for a woman to learn about her fertile and infertile times. You would note the quantity and consistency throughout the month to interpret where you are in your cycle.

You said you'd figured your most fertile days but you didn't mention how. Using mucous observation (and taking your temp each morning as a backup) are highly reliable forms of fertility awareness. Even with the IUD recently removed you can start tracking your fertility now and soon you will see your unique patterns.

All the info you need can be had from the Couple to Couple League. www.ccli.org

My husband and I have used this method (Natural Family Planning) with 100% effectiveness for the past 3 years. What's really nice is there are no pills with bad side effects to take, and the couple shares the responsibility. All other forms of birth control are the woman's burden (except condom).

Best of luck conceiving! God bless you.

It may take a while after your IUD has come out, to conceive, but these things are difficult to assess.
As to your other question, cervical mucus is the stuff secreted around the cervix. It alters in consistency at different times of the month, and in pregnancy it 'plugs' the pregnant uterus to prevent infection.
When the mucus is clear and runny this tends to indicate that you are fertile, but again, it is not always easy to tell.

Go to the website www.total-health-care.com/family-health/cervicalmucus.htm and u'll find information on cervical mucus. As 4 getting pregnant, it's all depends on how long u've been on the IUD. It may take a while 4 ur period 2 b regular again, therefore making it a little harder 2 get pregnant. Good Luck.

Cervical mucus is a natural lubricant that your body produces, more so around the time you ovulate. Its purpose is to help sperm travel to the egg. As we age, cervical mucus decreases, thus making getting pregnant a little harder. I have heard of women taking a decongestant when they ovulate to help increase and thin out cervical mucus. Any time you just get off of a device and/or chemical that prevents your body from menstruating it could take a month or more for your body to get back to doing what it does naturally. If you do not start your period in the next few days, I recommend that you take a home pregnancy test. If it's negative, then your body is just readjusting itself. If you do not start your period next month, take another pregnancy test, and if that is negative then have your doctor check you out. Good luck and hang in there!

I don't know much about the IUD but give it time - it takes a few months sometimes. Here is a site on cervical mucus
