Patient suffering is unnecessary given the sophistication of modern drugs. Physician-assisted suicide is really just a cheap and easy way of getting around the real problem, which is that many patients receive poor medical care and support. A competent, caring doctor is always able to relieve the pain associated with terminal disease, so there is really no need for any kind of suicide. Our attention should be focused on ensuring that everyone receives high-quality treatment rather than on legalizing the killing of suffering patients.

The Hippocratic Oath that physicians take states something to the effect of, "First of all, do no harm." Many take this to mean that physicians are to do all that they can to prolong life, and they feel that PAS is against the Hippocratic Oath. I don't agree. If someone is suffering greatly, and has no hope of recovery, I feel that PAS can be a way of doing no harm. I feel that it can be harmful to prolong a life of pain and suffering when there is no hope of recovery, and the person health is in a terminal state.

It's okay, some people want to be prepared for death to make it their choice and if the quality of life is diminishing then I see no problem with it. Why suffer needlessly for weeks or months when you know your condition is terminal anyway? Why put your family through that? You can say good bye and prepare yourself and do it with dignity and a professional doctor's help.

i agree with it. in the perspective of law, i think you would need leal papers nad witnesses stating that this is your will nad not murder, a videotape might be good. now that's also a problem because the state will do whateer it takes to keep you alive and safe. in the perspective of ethics, it's unethical because the doctors job is to save patient or at least make their deaths as painless as possible; helping them die is against their oath. my PERSONAL opinion on this is if the patient is dying no matter what, and there is proof that he/she wants to die and have legal document to proove it's not murder...it's ok then, the doctor or the state is not the one suffering but the patient.

I think it should be allowed if the person is beyond hope or cure. Why should they and the family suffer when they don't want to. It is their life and it is only going to get worse so why prolong it. I find it odd that it is cruel to let an animal live it they are suffering but we have to plug on when we are a mess and beyond suffering. Very odd double standard but hey, whatever works. Good question!!

People in physical trouble often have mental problems too.
Who decides if the patient is mentally stable enough to make
the decision of suicide? The physician who gets paid to kill them.
Suicide is suicide, doctor or not. I can not agree with it.

no one has control over others life and future except allmighty.
if u have disease and no proper aid based on medicine - u have to be reamain with patience and ask help from allmighty, then from humans nearby, try our level best to get rid of that disease,. instead if we go for such stupid thing, u are overriding the preprogrammed schedule of allmighty.
