Life, pal. Try life.

Lemme ask my best friend *the one who I watched o.d. and die when he was only 13* if drugs harmed him

If you are going to try drugs anyway, check out the information about the particular risks of the one you are taking. Be around good friends in a safe place when you do it and get someone straight to look out for you. Tell them what you took and when and ask them to take you to the hospital if it goes wrong.

Get pamphlets about different drugs from a health provider, community organisation and see what the risks are.

If you are so keen to experiment with drugs, maybe you could think about why your life isn't good enough without them and what you could work on improving?

Don't do drugs just cause others say its fun. Its not the same for everyone. People who do drugs lots turn out pretty lame and are not very cool or happy in the long run.

Good question.

Oh, and maybe you could manage and minimize the risk and still do something if you have to by trying the least harmful drug available. Ie. smoke pot rather than shooting up heroin with a used syringe. or have a drink and smoke a cigarette. woo! works for most people and you won't die straight away or get a mental health disorder hopefully.

At 19 your brain is not completely developed. In fact scientists have now discovered that new synaptic connections are being created throughout the lifespan, so any mind altering drug you take will affect your synaptic connections in some way. Of course this happens without drugs too, things like trauma, or new learning, will also cause your brain to loose and gain synaptic connections. I would be more concerned with the why you want to experiment than the type of drug you might be considering using. If it is a case of natural curiosity I say be moderate in your choices. Try to avoid addictive substances like crack, heroine, morophine, etc. If you want to experiment, then I suggest you do so with people you trust very much. Keep in mind that this is an illegal activity and the choices you make may affect the rest of your life. Probably pot would be the least invasive physically, but remember that you are allowing smoke to enter your lungs, which of course isn't good for your lungs. You might want to try eating some pot to avoid the byproduct of smoke, but know that the potency is harder to control when you injest it because it takes longer to enter your bloodstream through your stomach than through your lungs. So if you eat some "special" brownies or something, then eat slow because it will creep up on you, and you might eat more than you want without knowing it until you find yourself higher than you wanted to be.
I personally prefer natural drugs to synthetics, and believe me I have tried them all. Well, I have never smoked crack, the extreme addictiveness of it has scared me off, but just about anything else they have come up with has been in my body. I do not like the side effects or after effects of most synthetic drugs. You might have fun for a few hours while under the influence, but the next day my body does not like the recovery. I try to stick to natural substances because they don't seem to give you the hang-over effect that most synthetics do. This would include pot, mushrooms, peyote, and as one astute answer mentioned, adrenaline. This is probably the most exciting and none invasive drug of all. Your body produces it naturally and the high is better than anything you can get from an external source. Try base jumping or sex, they both produce adrenaline in high doses.

There is no such thing as experimenting. Your first time with any drug could be your last. Don't do it. Seek a natural high it probably won't leave you with a bad experience, and even if it does, you will remember it and not want to do it again. Drugs are not the answer and yes they will harm your body you may not know it now but play with drugs and your body will eventually get you back.

They really do harm your body and mind. When you do drugs you are slowly poisoning yourself into a dark pit that is very hard to climb out of. Your whole family would be ashamed of you because you did drugs instead of being proud of you for refusing them. You are 19. An adult. You have the right to make your own decisions. I just hope you make the right ones.
