I am a 37 year old male, excellent physical condition (workout, stay in shape) but when I speak to my female friends about who I would like to date and indicate that they should be in good shape, they freak out. Is there some unwritten code that you should just accept people even if you prefer someone who is not overweight?

Just to add- I am talking from a physical attraction standpoint, not the ability to keep up with activities.

I have no idea. I'm guessing the only reason you say that other than the obvious physical attraction is that you are looking for someone who will keep up with your activities or energy level, right? That's really how you should convey that.
