We are the smartest beings that have ever existed on the planet, yet we have caused one of the 6 largest mass extinctions on the planet, with some 40 species a day going extinct due to human activities. we are destroying our own planet and easily have the potential to destroy ourselves over insignificant issues. I would say that unless humans become much smarter, we wont last a thousand years, or at least in our form now. even a cataclysmic event like nuclear war could leave some survivors. we would have to restart civilization all over, and personally i dont think it will go well. As the world population swells above its already massive 6.5 billion mark, there will be less food and other resources for people, especially water. wars will be fought over dwindling resources, and it wont end very well. In my opinion, the human race will peak in the next couple hundred years unless drastic changes happen. The remainder of survivors may rise again, or they might dwindle down to extinction in a few thousand years following, depending on circumstances. As one of the only animals that can readily change its environment to suit its needs, the Human race has limitless potential, but at the same time has made all of the wrong decisions on how to handle those changes. Im sad to say it, but humans dont deserve to be the ones who control the planet unless drastic reform takes place

I think humans are too knowledgeable and have too much control on the ways of the Earth to become extinct. The only way the human race can die forever is if some LARGE natural disaster occurs, such as the enlarging of the sun, or the collision of the Earth and another planet, or a change in the gravitational field of the Earth, or something else.

Here are a few human extinction scenarios for you to consider:
+ An extremely contagious, always fatal virus develops and wipes out all humans
+ Global thermonuclear war
+ Earth is struck by an asteroid destroying most/all life including humans
+ Mutations lead to a species that replaces humans (very unlikely as humans are now too mobile and it takes long periods of isolation to evolve into a new species). Would probably only be possible after a disaster that eliminated most humans and left isolated pockets of humans to evolve.
+ Humans abandon natural reproduction in favor of genetic engineering and produce organisms that are not truly human (i.e. would be incapable of mating naturally with a human).
+ A more technologically advanced species from another plant exterminates humans
+ Climate change kills all the vegetation and humans starve out
+ A virus develops that renders all humans sterile
+ The human species collectively agrees to stop reproducing and dies out 100+ years later
+ A few humans leave earth and on a long-space journey evolve into a new species

We could become extinct at any time. It could be in the near future, in thousands of years, or in millions if we are lucky. Any major climate change, caused by some kind of natural disaster or something could cause the Earth to be unsuitable for humans, and we could all quickly die. Or, and this would take millions of years, other animals could involve that could hunt humans until we're extinct. Or aliens could come and instantly wipe out the human race, or even the whole planet. There are many ways that we could become extinct at any time, whether it happens instantly or slowly.

There are many factors that can make us become extinct. There is the first category: self-inflicted. This concerns potential big wars with many nukes, or environmental disaster in which the ice caps melt and global flood or loss of ozone layer and everyone burns. Second category: Hazard. This one concerns factors that we can't control such as asteroid collision.
Hopefully we can manage not to kill each other and advance as a species and be able to protect ourselves from an asteroid. I don't think our technology level is enough to pull off a Armageddon like scenario.
Answer: It's up to us really...

Dinosaurs did not became extinct, they evolved into different species, just like they were evolved out of an ancient species, man also has been evolved from ancient ancestors, and like the dinosaurs will also change to different species to keep up with evolution,In short, man will not become extinct but change as how he looks now

i think eventually humans will be extinct but it won't be for a looonnngg time. with technology getting better and better people are living longer, and global warming is going to take awhile untiul it fully goes into effect mabye thousands of years, so we'll all be long gone before people can start worrying about extinction.

I'm not sure when, but it could happen. If the Earth gets hit by something, then we would go extinct. Also, the Mayans predicted the world would end i think december 23, 2006 so we'll see...
