Why are we not better informed about welfare? How much does welfare cost? What % of our budget is spent on social programs like welfare. What happens to the economy when social programs are cut? Why would people want to convince others that people who use/need social programs are inferior? Why are so many black people on welfare? Why do people show picture of black people when talking about welfare?
Some people are given money from family, some are given opportunities because they are fortunate enough to be a part of a certain group. Some people are given nothing, but a hard time. Anyone who says that people on welfare are lazy moochers has a reason for saying so, identify that reason. Are they racist, are they angry because they haven't been given a chance but too proud too take help from social programs? Are the so privilidged that the know nothing about why people are on welfare? Do they golf? I've met some trust fund brats that were pretty f--ing lazy and ignorant of anything meaningful. Some people live off of the interest of fortunes established a century ago. Sometimes people forget the opportunities given to them and lash out at people and situations they know nothing about.

Damn, not everyone, my grandparents were hard working people but when my grandpa had a heart attack he couldn't work no more, so now they get medical assistance. There are true and good people who need it, I bet you wouldn't like it if you lost everything and had to rely on other's charity would you, but they do it to survive. You are not to judge because you are not God. I'm sure he hates people who take the position and abuse it and just point fingers at some true individuals who need welfare support. Now I do understand there are alot of jerks who abuse it and ALOT, and it is because of them that people that really need it often don't get it. I find it hard to see that the honest hard working/elderly/disabled get little help while the lazy ones don't have to do anything and get everything they want. I still want to keep the welfare system because really, I'm a Catholic and religious man and I believe we should help those who need it, and those who steal and make it hard for the true poor will have to face God and tell him what they did. So yeah, not everyone on welfare is a moocher, just quite a bit are.

Turns out that you can work at Walmart full-time, and if you have a kid, in my state you will still qualify for food stamps.
This is just one example. While there are people who take advantage of the system, so do large corporations (and small as well) who do not pay their employees a living wage so that they fall beneath the federal poverty level and end up qualifying for state support even though they are working.
Sometimes I think that Walmart (and companies like it) are the real cause of welfare. We are paying money out of our pockets so that their employees can get state assistance and Walmart can pay low wages and make nice profits....
The lazy welfare recepient is a misconception. Far more work very hard for very little pay. I mean, how on earth is someone supposed to make minimum wage and pay daycare on top of rent and everything else without help?

I know people on both ends. Some seem to be very lazy and take advantage, while others are very hard working and would like to get off the program someday. Everyone in some point of there lives have had hard times and need help, it would be nice if they would do what they need to get back on there feet and move forward but not all do, some get stuck in the "rut" and go no where. I don't judge people but I do understand your frustration!

Some, but the new welfare is tougher to be on than before. You have to take training classes, and report to a job locating service. Also there is a limit to how long you can be on.
Hopefully there won't be many moochers anymore. I need my money to support me, not lazy people!

Yes!!! There are people who are lazy and want to take advantage of the welfare system. This puts people who honestly need the help in a bad light. Unfortunately, there's no real way of weeding out the people who need it from the people who milk it.

I can't believe people stereotype everyone on welfare as the same. You might as well say that all italians are mobsters, or all Irishman are drunks.
Why don't you do some research on the welfare system, and how it works and who's actually on it, before you make a decision? Not just accepting what your army buddies and Rush Limbaugh tell you.

Healthy people of all color, and people serving prison time need to be required to earn a GED! Let us start dealing with the problems. It cost the taxpayers way more money after the welfare mother's children(not all mothers) commit crimes. Build more ghetto schools, small ten student classes, tutors, better trained teachers, high security in halls, bathroom, and outside of school. Create part time jobs in their neighborhoods after classes, and full time in summer. We can send hundreds of billions over seas, but politicians choose not to take of our own citizens. American indians have it even worst!!

I think welfare's a good thing as long as people don't abuse it. My dad lost his job when I was a baby and my parents went on welfare for a bit. But, it didn't mean he stopped looking for work. And as soon as he found a job, they got off welfare. It's good if used as a helping hand just until they can get back on their feet.

I believe that most people on welfare deserve much more from the society they belong to than they are actually receiving!
Most people on welfare never had the opportunity to receive a decent education, unlike those who call them moochers.
Most people on welfare are completely incapable, through no fault of their own of obtaining a job with adequate income to cover the total expense of all their needs, unlike those who call them moochers.
Most people on welfare have always been completely destitute, and no person "Deserves" to be destitute or hungry or sick, but that doesn't stop people from calling moochers.
You guys are all a bunch of assholes.
