i've got a esp f-50 electric and an acoustic, self-taught. it should be easier to teach yourself with an understanding of music. i had played the piano for 6 years before i picked up the guitar and it helped me a whole lot.

I paly a fender stratocaster through a fender dyna-touch III series combo amp.

I take lessons once in a while to help out but I'm almost all self taught. Being in band will help you some with timing/key sig/notation.

The truth about it being hard is not an easy answer. You can just learn to play some songs and it's easy enough. BUT, you may very well get to a point where that bores the crap out of you and decide to delve into theory and writting, at which point it can become tedious at first.

Remember to HAVE FUN WITH IT

fenders are awsome, i play a alverez, a johnson(giving that 1 to my older sis) and an electric starcaster, but the string popped, and me nor my older brother know how to change it, lol. i have a teacher that teaches me during the skool year, and if im lucky, every friday, so i guess you could say im kinda teaching myself. playing isnt hard after u learn. it does hurt, but after your fingers harden up, u cant really fee anything on them anymore. trust me, u will love it
