Because most women aren't secure enough with themselves to not let the little things bother them. If they were, there would be no reason to get defensive.

Because society tells women that we are defined by 1)how pretty we are; 2) how thin we are; 3) how we dress. It's usually impossible for almost any woman to "measure up," so it grates on our nerves when we're asked silly questions about our weight, hair, nose, etc.

Because all women think they're too fat and not good looking enough. They're almost always harder on themselves than men are, but maybe not as hard on themselves as other women's opinions of them are.
