Why can't we vote via the internet with our representatives in Washington DC voiting on bills, etc according to the majoirty? I'm sure a system could be set up allowing only one vote per person, per bill, etc and our lawmakers would be forced to vote for the people vice their own interest with the majority having the right to recall the representative if they vote opposite of what the majority wants. Woldn't this ellimnante our representatives from having their own agenda and voting for or against something because they want to ensuer reelection?

The most significant adverse effect would be access. There would be an inherent bias toward the more affluent, English speaking population. Don't forget, there are millions of people living in the US with NO internet access, let alone savvy. Just take a look at what happened when the Medicare Part D changes were largely internet based for the elderly population. What a debacle!!!

Considering the level of participation in elections that only happen once every 4 years, can you imagine the low turnout on bills that can be voted on every day? The likely outcome would be that only the strong proponents and opponents of a certain issue would vote on the bill. This ignores the feelings and beliefs of all the other people who all have lives and things to do every day. The best way to remove the "agendas" that our politicians have is to eliminate the ease with which special interest groups can bribe our politicians.

In addition to the point above, there would also be a huge risk of fraud. It's not easy to set up a system, as you suggest, for perfect authentication. Think of all the people who get robbed on e-mail phishing schemes or 419 scams. Now think of them giving away their vote in addition to their money.

Not to mention it would be even easier for people in the government to rig votes, and if caught blame it on "computer errors".

Dangerous stuff. Although the idea is absolutely awesome, due to technological and moral restrictions I do not see it being possible anytime soon.

*bites his tounge* I think I may be speaking to soon however.
