i started writing my diary aged about 14. i usually write in it when something significant (good or bad) happens in my life. or when i feel like my mind is getting so crowded with thoughts, that i need to think a little clearer. writing down all these thoughts really does help me! my first diary was a gift from my Godmother and it`s one of the best gifts i have ever been given. i am a little disturbed by stories of parents reading thier childrens diaries. surely every one is entitled to a little privacy?!

Yes, I kept a diary in my teens. Yes, I told everything. Then my mom found it and read that I was thinking about sneaking off and having my first sexual encounter with my "then" boyfriend. Needless to say, my mom didn't give a flip about my privacy and I was grounded forever. I no longer keep a diary, but I do keep a weight loss journal.

Yes years ago. I was in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. My mother sent me a Diary which I received a few months arriving in Nam. Depending on what happen or didn't happen on a certain day, would determine what I would write. So today I have a record of my time over from 1/70-9/71. It has come in very handy the pass 5 years in that I have been dealing with issues with the VA and have help other vets with dates, time and such, when they needed proof in filing claims with the VA for compensation.
At times it is too painful to read it. When I look back and think I was only 21,22 at the time, it is with amazement I made it out of there in one piece.

I have kept a journal sense the time I was able to write. I'm 30 now and I still keep a journal. And yes, I tell my journal everything. It's like a best friend that can't blab. I will probably keep a journal until I can no longer write or until I am dead....I keep no secrets from my journal. That's when everyone is going to truly know who I was, when I'm gone and my kids get the journals.

I tried to keep a diary, but my dad was snoopy and he didn't take the contents of the Diary very well. I did learn that I should never ever write anything, unless I was willing to share it with the world though ... This has saved my Giraffe Glutious Maximus many a time --- Thanks Dad.

if you are then mom of a girl and a boy i suggest you don`t read their diaries even if they do 'tell all'. you will teach them insincerity as diaries are meant to be private. respect them and they will respect you.

Well I tried once, but I got tire of writing. Its too hard to tell everything and always is the thing that someone may read it.
