it is just an excuse
many pregnany women are uneducated on how to correctly eat (and don't bother trying to find out till after they have the baby)
for instance, there is no caloric increase in the first trimester and at most you should gain 6 pounds dune to fluid retention.
in the second and third trimesters you need ONLY 300 calories extra a day NOT AT LEAST 300 extra a day!
pregnancy is not an excuse to throw away good eating habits and pig out all the time and gaining too much weight can hurt your baby in many ways, please educate yourselves ladys

That is a question that would come from a man! Try pushing a water melon out of your little thing. I am 7 months pregnant with my first child and just begining the whole weight gain process. Granted I have not gain that much weight yet, it is sure to come. Yes I hope I will lose it all and drop back down to my normal size or even smaller but if I don't for a while I think my boyfriend should be understanding about that. They say an average women gains 20-40 pounds during pregnancy. You try gaining all that weight and then try to lose it right away while you are SOOO busy taking care of a newborn. Some people may just use it as an excuse but you do have to give most of us the benefit of the doubt. We did just go through hell because of you men.

This is not just an excuse. You have to eat a minumum of 300 extra calories a day when you are pregnant. The average weight gain for a woman who is pregnant, with one child, is 20-25lbs. And every woman's body responds to pregnancy different. Some woman can get rid of the weight very easily, and others have a lot of problems losing the weight from having a baby.

First of all that is not an excuse. Some woman gain weight and some do not gain weight during their pregnancy. Having gained weight from having a baby is a legit reason. You have to put on weight for the baby.

Honestly - I think it depends on the maturity of the woman.
I was only 17 when I got pregnant with my 1st child - I was petite and perky.... In my mind at that time, I thought - you know what - If I'm going to get fat anyway, I'm going to eat what I want.... It doesn't work like that ... I gained nearly 90 pounds.
However, at 23 when I got pregnant with my 2nd child, I was a little more conscious of my health, my body, etc.... and I was very careful about what I ate and the exercise routine that I followed. With my 2nd child, I gained 20 pounds and lost all of it before my 6 week check up.... same with my 3rd & 4th children. With my 3rd, I gained 15 pounds and my 4th I gained 11 pounds.
BUT ---- That 90 pounds that I pack on 13 years ago still haunts me. So, I guess to answer your question, it's not an excuse - it happens, it's the truth - but, if you are a little more health concious and take care of yourself during pregnancy, you should be fine.

Hmm...If the woman gained an obscene amount of weight during her pregnancy and then didn't lose nearly all of it, barring any medical issues she may have, this is probably just an excuse. However, it is a proven fact that women's bodies do change during pregnancy...hips get wider, they develop little "pooches" on their abdomens, etc. This is normal. If a woman loses all but 5 - 10 pounds of her "baby weight" this is normal and not an excuse.

I only gained 18 pounds during pregnancy, lost it, sat on my butt with my son for 2 years, gained all that plus cause I was LAZY. I was lucky and kept myself fit and didn't overeat (the eating for 2 is a load of crap). Now I'm paying for being lazy and having to lose the weight I gained due to that. So no, the baby weight thing to me is an excuse, doctors will tell you to gain a certain amount of weight but they also tell you to eat right, exercise, and you don't become a whale from doing that during pregnancy.

I had two kids and wasn't any heavier a month after their birth than I was when I got pregnant; but I know some people who did the same things as I did. They ate the same and did about the same activities as I did and they gained a lot more weight. I dropped all of my weight immediatly, but A lot of women have a hard time dropping pounds once they have gained them. Since you happen to be a man......you probably don't know about that. So, my suggestion is until you have a baby....you shouldn't speculate about baby weight gain.

I have had an obgyn tell me that some women are prone to gaining more weight during pregnancy. Should you lose the weight afterwards, well yes, but isn't as easy as that. If you can't afford a trainer, a personal chef, a nutritionist, a sitter so you can exercise with your trainer, then well it may take it little longer to lose the weight.

Except for a few rare cases a woman should be able to loose her baby weight within a year and usually no later than two. It depends on the woman, however, a lot of people use it as an excuse.
