If Zidane was angry enough to headbutt Materazzi, why doesn't he come out and say what was said to him? Everyone seems to think it was some sort of slur. Or is it possible that it was so trivial it will make him look bad.

Well he's living off the speculations flying around that it was a racial slur from the team everyone has been vilifying, which would make him look like the victim. Why open his mouth to prove he had nothing, was a fool and may have lost the game for his team mates.

Everyone needs time to cool down and collect their thoughts. That's what he's doing and expecially, it's understandable if all the rumors about what was said are true. Zizou is obviously very upset and as he should be.

Whatever was said to him, his behavior was over the top.
He comes off as the bad guy as he overreacted, exactly what the Italians wanted. Mr. Z fell right into their trap.
