The fear of mice is called "Musophobia" or "Muriphobia" or "Suriphobia" (it has multiple names) - There is even a patron saint of people who are afraid of mice - GERTRUDE of Nivelles.
In older times, mice and rats were more prevalent in people's surroundings - in their houses and streets. Rodents might try to eat your food (especially your stored grains), or eat your garbage, and also carried disease. (The Black Plague in Europe was carried by rats). Thus controlling mice and rats was important - and it's no wonder that cats were one of the first domesticated animals, primarily because of their skills in rodent control.
Nowadays, with modern sanitation and building materials and pest control, we can generally keep our houses mouse-free.
But that still doesn't keep some people from fearing them... after all, they're small, fast and furry. While mice won't bite people, they could freak you out if they crawled by you when you weren't expecting it. While only some people are irrationally scared of mice, most mice are rationally afraid of people - because we are way bigger than they are. But mice also make good pets, and are important for biological research.

No. I think mice are cute, even though they can carry diseases. I know a guy who is afraid of a mouse. At school, there were a lot of mice running around the building. One ended up in my classroom. A guy in my class (I won't say who) freaked out and hoped up on to a desk. He said that he didn't like mice. It was pretty funny. The mouse got scared and was able to slip under the door! Then it ran into the hallway and into the classroom next door. It was so funny. But the mouse was terrified, so was the guy in my class.
