That was a full red card offence. I'm not just saying that becasue i am Italian. It was a brutal attack and no matter what the player said he was supposed to keep his cool... he is supposedly the best in the sport right-- after what he did i think not.

I think Zizou deserved a red card...as he head butted Materazzi after the Italian player had thrown some personal insults at him. Its rumoured that Materazzi uttered some real nasty racist comments to Zizou. I guess Zidane couldnt take it anymore. But whats important here is that Zidane was playing in his last match before retiring. Some more at the FIFA World Cup 2006!!.At least he should have thought about retiring gracefully rather than in total disgrace. One sad ending to a long and distinguised football career...no doubt he recieved the Adidas Golden Ball award.

Im afraid not many people, fans alike, will forget this unsightly scene. I wont. I didnt realise that hes done this before.Seems to be a trait of his. He seriously needs to put a check on his emotions!.

So he deserved the red card. The referee made the right decision. If I was the referee, I would do the same! No one is above the rules of conduct.

I am a loyal fan of Zidane's and I think he is a brilliant player. But there was no excuse for what he did. He deserved the red card. I've read many articles now on what the Italian player said - which was unacceptable as well, but Zidane should have controlled his temper; he shouldn't have headbutted him. Nevertheless, Zidane is still the best of the best in football.

Zidane might as well have punched the Italian player in the face. The red card was justified and obvious to anyone watching the game.

Zidane HEADBUTTED that guy and this was no shove or love tap. I honestly could NOT believe what he did, and he earned that red card. Zidane should KNOW better then to let a few words get to him. Zidane brought this upon himself and he can't blame no one else.

He absolutely deserved to red carded. Yes, the Italian player was trash talking about his mother *he has admitted it*, but trash talking is never an excuse for any kind of hands on violence.

That was a deserved red card. Who knows what was said to him, but there's no question he deserved the red.

I think he absolutely deserved the red card. What he did was against the rules and therefore he was punished accordingly.
