Schools already have a ton of money. From 1994-1998, under Clinton's watch, there was over a billion dollars missing and unaccounted for that should have went to schools. It was later found that the money went to the teacher's union and it disappeared. I'm not shocked the leftist media said NOTHING about this. This is just one reason why the public school system seems underfunded when it actually isn't. Why are superintendents in poor districts making $200,000 a year? Why does a school in a wealthy area afford to buy 4 computers per student when a school in a poor area gets 1 per 30 students? You can thank beaucracy for that one.

As for the military not having any money...ok so this war is ridiculous and expensive, yes. But the military has to be funded to be able to protect the United States. Without a military we're all sitting ducks to terrorists and takeover.

Even if our schools get the funds they need, it still will not ensure that students being promoted from grade to grade or graduating will KNOW and UNDERSTAND THE BASICS. The education system, from coast to coast is failing our young people. The academic standards are being lowered. One way the educational system does not help the students is to implement PHONETIC spelling. With that type of spelling, are they also teaching the student the RIGHT way to spell a word? I think not. Just look at the majority of Q&A's in this forum from the school aged to the young adults....it's pathetic! Until the Education system once again raises the standards, all the money won't mean a darn thing.

As far as the "bake sale for a bomber".....I'd be pretty ticked off if Uncle Sam had to bow down to those means in order to furnish our countries defense.

I know, I know, it's a sarcastic look at our country and what seems to be more important, "Defending our Country vs Educating our Young". Both need to be addressed, both need to be important, both will someday promote the future of our country.

A big "thank you" to all the men and women serving our country in the Armed Forces.

The day that either the schools or the air force gets "all the money they need" will be the day that taxpayers give all their earnings to the government. Both the schools and the air force are insatiable spenders and will take all the money they can get without feeling responsible to use it wisely. It is not a time for smart talk and whining about being underfunded. We have proved beyond any reasonable doubt at enormous expense that more money by itself will not lead to improvement. What needs to be done is to require both to demonstrate they can spend what they already have more wisely so that there are some measurable improvements, before they get any more.

No. I do not agree with this quote. The schools don't need more money. They need LESS money and BETTER teachers. We must get rid of the teachers unions and hire better, qualified teachers. Not the current cry babies that call themselves teachers and whine that they don't get enough money for working a part time job that has full time pay and unheard of benefits that even full time jobs in the private sector don't have. And if you think teachers aren't over paid and ARE doing their jobs just look at the stupid questions here loaded with bad grammar and poor spelling. With out an army to protect our country, it won't matter how much money the schools have, we'd be nucked out of existence by the terrorists.

I agree. Although our military is important, I feel that right now with the war and all the other conflicts we are having in the world that the domestic issues are being ignored or put on the back-burner. It would be nice if we could take care of the people in the United States first and THEN help the world.

i agree with the school getting the money. however i disagree with the the military having to raise the money.
i think our schools do need more funding from the government. the education for our children is terrible in this country and needs new everything. however, i think our military should be well funded because if we should be attacked again (because we don't seem to be well liked by the world right now) i want my house to be protected. i think the government should take money out of their pocket and maybe get a pay cut and use that money for education instead of going to the Bahamas for a weekend getaways.

Fist of all. who ever came up with that must not know much about the military or government. i am in the marine corps, and everyone thinks we get so much stuff.but we don't. we need more money to get weapons , gear, etc. when we were in Iraq we had to still blankets just to keep warm at night. you don't like the way things are in America get your a** out!! i know plenty of people who have died for this country. you should be thank ful to get to sit here and play on your computer. that quote is dumb
God Bless the USA

If this were an ideal world, we wouldn't have to spend so much money on bombers. Unfortunately, in the real world they're needed. Perhaps someday they won't be, and then we can give all the money now spent on defense to education.

I don't. Gosh, just look at North Korea acting out for whatever reason. While I don't believe we should be an aggressor, we have to be able to defend ourselves, if necessary. Here in my city we've thrown a gazillion dollars at our schools and they are still the worst in the country.

Well I guess many parents will have to agree with that, ever tried baking cakes for the cake stalls held at schools.
