I think yes, but it's an uphill fight because we are constantly being conditioned by media, fast food chains and other people with poor dietary habits.
I think planning of healthy meals really helps. I think most people already have a good idea of what "healthy" means. Planning helps in avoiding eating crap because it's the only thing around you when you get hungry.
As far as general health, much has to do with taking time to read up on health; even renting vid.s from the local library about it. Also, getting into the habit of asking your doc and other health professionals questions when you see them for checkups. Being sure to ask them about side effects of any prescribed medications. You know, advocating for your own health.
Habitually exercising 30-60 minutes a day is enough for most people. Walking doesn't take any special equipment. Honestly I think the solution has more has to do with stick-to-it-iveness than education. But both play important roles.

yes, but it does require the ability to review and critique scientific peer-reviewed journals. Also, to be sophisticated enough to discern which web sites offer valid information about health and diet.
When in doubt about a web site check out if the information on the web site matches resutls of published scientific studies.
anyone can say anything on the internet and they do! Just because someone is an MD or PhD adds zero credibility to their web site.
Many MD's mislead the public in attempt to sell supplements or their books. Or they just aren't well informed.

I am educated. A dog is trained to balance a ball on its nose.
As far as educating people, it is very difficult when you smell a burger broiling away on the grill and all you have is a salad.
"Meat! I need some meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat!"
"But, honey, a salad is healthy for you."
"Screw healthy. I'll be dead anyway! Gimme that burger! And with CHEESE!"

You can't be trained to think for yourself... you can be encouraged or inspired... but the THINKING FOR YOURSELF part is ALL YOU.
