I dont think its dangerous, but its very uncomfortable. I sleep in a cami with a shelf bra and love it. If you sleep in a regular bra, you can bend the underwire. I think that is why most people dont do it.

WELL SOME DOCTORS SAY IT IS NOT GOOD TO WEAR A WIRED RA FOR MORE THAN 8-16 HOURS WITHIN A DAY, IT CAUSES BREAST CANCER. IT IS BETTER TO SLEEP IN A SOFT BRA.
