bruce understood that anyone, on any given day, could overcome anyone else. back in the day, after filming a few scenes for one of his movies, he and chuck norris sparred for a while, and chuck actually won repeatedly. now, does that mean he's better than bruce lee? no way. but everyone has their days when they're in the zone, and everyone has their days where everything they touch crumbles.
ask anyone who's studied martial arts, they'll tell you that theres always that one time when you do better than you thought you could, or you got your @s$ handed to you when you didnt think it was possible.
but, as far as most martial artists are concerned, bruce represents a level of dedication, and a level of natural connection with martial arts. he truly found what he was meant to do, and shared it with everyone he could. he wanted to give others the chance to attain what he knew inside. it wasnt a matter of understanding, it was beyond that. it was a matter of BEING ONE with your art, not understanding it. of releasing yourself, and being free of any limitations or preconcieved notions, and just allowing yourself to be the most you truly could be.
