for the first trimester eat normally (you need no extra calories)

second and third trimesters you need an additional 300 calories a day (one or two snacks)

if you are eating healthy and not "eating for two" you will not gain too much or too little weight

Well, if you are on the WIC program then they tell you not to gain to much weight. I don't know why but they do and sometimes they make women feel really bad about it. I didn't sign up for the wic program during my pregnancy because of this until 2 weeks before my baby was due. By then they couldn't tell me I had gained to much weight. I gained 70lbs when I was pregnant, and I have a healthy little boy. Don't feel bad about how much weight you gain, remember you are eating for two now. Eat when you are hungry. Weight won't hurt the baby, but it could be hard to get rid of after the baby is here.

During my 1st pregnancy, I ate whatever I wanted - I gained 90 pounds. I went from 135 to 225... OUCH....

So, Yes - be careful what you eat.

With my other pregnancies (I have 4 children) - I was much more careful about what I ate, exercising, etc - I only gained 20# with my 2nd, 15# with my 3rd and 11# with my 4th ---- However, the 90 that I gained the first time around still haunts me --- I have had a terrible time getting the weight off - and even as I've lost it, it's been really hard to tone back up.

Just be careful - eat healthy and don't binge. You should be fine.

If you are already overweight, you need to watch a little more. There are a few reasons why you should watch you weight. One, it will be extra weight that you have to lose after the baby is born.
Two, there are some links to obesity in pregnancy linked to obesity later in life to both the mother and child
Just eat reasonably healthy. If you want ice cream every single minute, think about frozen yogurt instead. Or if you are craving chocolate, only allow yourself it twice a week.
Don't deprive yourself because eating during pregnant can be fun, but don't go overboard.
Let common sense rule. And check with your doc about exercise. Go on a walk every day or something.

I gained 20 lbs with my children. I ate well but watch what I ate not a lot of junk. If I wanted somehing sweet I ate fruit. I also to walked in the park a few times a week. I was just a few pounds from being back to my prepregnancy weight after delivery. I wouln't worry about gaining weight but you don't want to gain excessive weight.

Don't diet, if that is what you mean.

Typically you're supposed to gain about 35 pounds, but don't adhere to that too strongly. Some doctors are really finicky about weight gain but it's not that big of a deal, as long as you're staying healthy. I gained 50 pounds in my first pregnancy, even though I lost 11 pounds in the first trimester. The week after he was born I was back down to my prepregnancy weight + ten pounds.

I wasn't worried about it. I gained 80 lb. with my first pregnancy and took it all off but about 10 lb. I gained 40 lb. with my second pregnancy and took all of it off but that same 10 lb. LOL I was too thin to begin with, so I'm glad I have this little extra weight on me...makes me more curvy and feminine now. :) I wouln't worry about gaining weight during your pregnancy...it's inevitable. 7 lb. baby, 3 lb. placenta, a few pounds of amniotic fluid, water weight gain, etc. You HAVE to gain weight. However, if you gain an obscene amount of weight because you're eating unhealthy, fattening foods and not taking care of your body, that could damage your baby, and you should be concerned about that.

It always makes me sad when I see women who are worried about gaining weight. Not because it's unhealthy for the baby or some other legitimate reason...but they worry because they'll get stretch marks and flabby thighs and saggy boobs. Well woo hoo honeys...welcome to motherhood!

Honestly, there really is more in life than having (what you might think is) a perfect body. You should be happy to have a healthy, normal baby...and you can't have one of those if you starve yourself and worry about an extra 5 pounds. Women were meant to have wider hips, large breasts, a bit of a tummy...it's part of our curve package. :)

When I got pregnant, I got BIG. I gained 65 lbs, but after I had my daughter. Since I had a C-Section I had to wait before I could start working out. It took me 6 months to get back to my size 5. But remember, your pregnant. Have fun and it'll take a while to lose the weight. IF you want to watch what you eat, go ahead, but let loose once in a while... lol

you do gain weight when pregnant. everyone does. mostly is pregnancy weight. extra water, the baby, milk on breast things like that. just eat healthy like you would usually. make sure you get enough fruits and vegetables. just because you r pregnant dont mean you have to start eating like a pig. And go for walks do yoga. things are are good while pregnant.

You should ask your doctor what is the ideal weight gain for your height/weight because evey body type is different. Mine was 35lbs. I ate healthy and work out 5 days a week. I'm at 38 weeks and have gained 30lbs so I'm on track.
