While the parties don't have official nominees yet, it's not quite accurate to say "nobody is running." There are quite a few politicians who have already formed PACs to help finance thier bids.

For the Democrats the most likely candidates are (in no particular order):

Hillary Clinton
Westley Clark
Mark Warner
John Edwards
Bill Richardson

Some second and third tier candidates who may or may not run, or simply dont have much of a shot:

Evan Bayh
Tom Vilsack
Al Gore
John Kerry
Tom Daschle
Joe Biden
Russ Feingold

For the Republicans, there aren't as many candidates that are known to be likely. Part of this is since they're the party in power, they aren't quite as focused so far out on winning. There's power in the incumbancy. But there are a few frontrunners:

Bill Frist
Jeb Bush
John McCain
Rudy Giuliani
Mitt Romney
Newt Gingrich
George Allen
Sam Brownback.

Out of these, Frist, McCain, and Giuliani are the most likely candidates.

sure. in spite of the indisputable fact that the only president who has ever finished so effectively became Grover Cleavland. someone can serve a maximum of 10 years as president. 2 finished words, and as a lot as 2 years of ending yet another's time period. ( If he were to change into president by technique of ending anothers words and that era is for longer than 2 years, he ought to only run back once.) the circumstances do no longer should be consecutive yet from a pragmatic element of view, it isn't going that a president, after serving 2 words, may ever back be in a position to end out yet another persons time period.

WOULD YOU PLEASE TAKE A SOCIAL STUDIES CLASS OR A GOVERNMENT CLASS?

YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW HOW OUR GOVERNMENT WORKS! AT LEAST THE BASICS...I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT WE CAN'T KNOW WHO WILL RUN YET!

VOTING IS NOT ONLY YOUR RIGHT AS A CITIZEN, ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, AND IF YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW AN ELECTION WORKS, HOW ON EARTH ARE YOU GOING TO KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR?
