I've heard this before but I would need to know the full story before making any judgements on it. I've even heard a supposed recording, but again, I didn't trust the source.

where did you read that? i'm sure that there could be a number of things that could sound like screaming that come from deep within the earth. any kind of underground volcanic activity could release steam or air pressure that could sound like screaming. i bet there could be underground animals or insects that are yet to be discovered as well, and they could make noises.
