I don't think he stole it. It is inspired by and an evolution from Pryor's comedy. Redd Foxx was doing a similar style (profanity, urban refercences, black centered) before Pryor. Richard added his own experiences and style of delivery. Eddie followed with his style of delivery and contemporary topics. Could Eddie Murphy have been successful without Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Flip Wilson, and others? No. Did he copy their material, no.

No, but he was inspired by Richard Pryor. Did Woody Allen or Jackie Chan steal from Buster Keaton, Jack Lemon, and Charlie Chaplain? No, but they were the inspiration for their movies.

No, but he was definitely inspired by Richard Pryor.
I was just listening to some of his albums the other day, he had an original style that no one has really captured, but they have built on the foundation he provided.
