No, Materazzi should not press assault charges. The head butt by Zidane was ugly, very ugly. One of the worlds greatest players, had one of the best performances in a world cup, but the last moment that everyone will remember is a vicious head butt. It will mark his career like an ugly scar.

Materazzi said something, whether it was a racial slur, or just something down right dirty. He did not deserve to receive the head butt, but he instigated it.

Acts of violence like this happen in all sports, and sadly, it is a part of our world. Materazzi should just let it go, he was able to kick a penalty kick in, so the pain can not be that overwhelming.

The pain that Zidane feels now, while he holds the trophy for MVP of the world cup is much stronger than paying a fine for a head butt. He has to live with that red card on his career forever.

Depends on what he actually said. Although it does not excuse his actions if it was racist taunts I believe materazzi should be banned from the sport completely. If you watch closely zizu was walking away end of story then some taunt made him see red. Time all clubs cleaned up their acts and stopped diving and cheating their fellow professionals. No good clubs complaining when their own players are no better.

Not likely. As an Irishman who is totally neutral i think if materazzi was big and brave enough to throw a deeply insulting comment at Zidane then he should be big enough to take it back in any form from Zidane. Though if i had been in Zidanes position i would have bottled my anger, drove my team on to success, kissed the trophy infront of materazzi and slapped him silly behind closed doors!!!

Definitely not. Not because of provocation or alleged racism, but because of the precedent it sets. Can you imagine it, players would be getting other players arrested, the police at the match would have to arrest players for the slightest little thing. If a successful prosecution was brought it would a legal can of worms like you wouldn't believe

He can, but he won't. I am sure he said something terrible to Zidane. But, still as a professional Zizou should not have reacted that way. You know how much Sh1t talk does be going on the field.
Think about NBA...if Shaq was to do that to someone, think about the backlash?!

Firstly, it Zizou. And secondly NO! He provoked him. I mean if you insult someone you have to be ready to deal with the consequences. You asking if he should file assault charges is like asking if Zizou should file charges for slander.

Are you like his attorney and you don't know what to do or something? You know, I don't really care if he sues or not, none of the money goes to anything worth while anyway. It's all greed.
