to see something, light rays have to hit your eyes
that means that the thing you are seeing has to emit or reflect light
"space" does not emit light and it does not reflect light
an object in space (star, planet, astronaut) that emits light of its own or reflects light from another source (like the sun) is visible
so, looking out through the void, it appears black except where it isn't void (there is something there to send the light to your eye)

It's dark because there is nothing for any light to refract or reflect off of. With nothing to scatter the light, you don't see anything.
Look at it this way, you don't see the light that goes from the sun to the moon until it hits the moons' surface and reflects from it.
You see light, like the headlights of a car or a beam from a flashlight, in the earths atmosphere because it refracts and reflects from dust and water particles in the air.

space will look dark in whatever direction we go. we can see objects because of the light reflected by them.as the name suggests there is more of dark matter in space than objects.so most of the light goes unreflected as a result of which space is dark

Don't you see the stars ? Realitive to our current technology, it would take 76 thousand years to reach the next closest sun ! We're 2/3rds the way out in our own galaxy. Hubble telescope photos are cool.

It's dark for as far as the eye can see. Except, of course, where interrupted by stars, galaxies and other objects in space.

It doesn't matter what you are looking from, to, or through. It's visible as far as the eye can see. That is the definition of visible.
